Lao house crickets (Jeow Je Naiy)

Yummy Lao house crickets served with cooked sticky rice

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of house crickets
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 2 shallots
  • 8-9 chillies (or more if preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon of spring onion (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of fish sauce

Method

  1. Grill or stir the house crickets. 
  2. Grill the garlic, the shallots, and the chillies together. Add the salt and pound the mixture.  
  3. Add the house crickets to the mixture and pound everything together. After that, add the fish sauce, the spring onion and the coriander. 
  4. Transfer the house crickets and the rest of the mixture to a plate and the dish is ready to be served. 

Noted

The Lao house crickets are served best with cooked sticky rice.
