This mushroom is sold as an edible in markets of Laos under the local name \u201cwai khom.\u201d\u00a0<em>Hebeloma<\/em>\u00a0sect.\u00a0<em>Porphyrospora<\/em>\u00a0is discussed and expanded to include the species formerly included in the genus\u00a0<em>Anamika<\/em>\u00a0and recently transferred to\u00a0<em>Hebeloma. Hebeloma<\/em>\u00a0sect.\u00a0<em>Porphyrospora<\/em>\u00a0currently comprises 16 species, 14 of which are known only from the western Pacific and Indian subcontinent. All species in this section share the character of having red-brown spores when fresh, atypical for other sections of\u00a0<em>Hebeloma<\/em>, which causes the lamellae to be red-brown. However, this red-brown color fades when the material is dried. The close links, morphologically and molecularly, between\u00a0<em>H. parvisporum<\/em>\u00a0and other members of\u00a0<em>H<\/em>. sect.\u00a0<em>Porphyrospora<\/em>, particularly\u00a0<em>H. victoriense<\/em>, are shown.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Lao Mushroom\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"040d1d35-8e17-4a81-8ce8-ce9ecabc9b21\" src=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/public\/inline-images\/93207701_1152338648444976_5323358023450624000_o.jpg\" class=\"align-center\" width=\"1200\" height=\"819\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ursula Eberhardt, Henry J.
