{"id":9732,"date":"2019-12-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phakhaolao.la\/news\/northern-rice-farming-improvements-sow-seeds-of-khao-kainoi-success\/"},"modified":"2024-10-21T11:46:49","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T11:46:49","slug":"northern-rice-farming-improvements-sow-seeds-of-khao-kainoi-success","status":"publish","type":"news-post","link":"https:\/\/phakhaolao.la\/en\/news\/northern-rice-farming-improvements-sow-seeds-of-khao-kainoi-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern rice farming improvements sow seeds of khao kainoi success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Agro-Biodiversity Initiative (TABI) is continuing its programme to assist farmers in the provinces of Xieng Khuang and Huaphan to improve the quality of\u00a0<em>khao kainoi\u00a0<\/em>seeds, thereby ensuring food security in the communities and better returns for farmers.\u00a0The project has now expanded to nine districts of the two provinces through\u00a0<em>khao kainoi<\/em>\u00a0rice seed production development networks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A TABI official, Mr Vilaylack reported that presently 60 per cent of local farmers are planting <em>khao kainoi<\/em> rice to consume and trade. However, farmers have been using poor quality mixed rice seeds, resulting in low production.\u00a0As a result, since 2014, TABI has cooperated with provincial authorities to select the best\u00a0<em>khao kainoi<\/em>\u00a0seeds to improve and strengthen production in communities.\u00a0The project is aimed to help locals on food security and increase the crop\u2019s value to boost farmers\u2019 income.
