Farmers have harvested rice on more than 84,930 hectares, equal to 96% of the total cultivation are. The harvest is complete in the central provinces but farmers in the northern and southern provinces are still at work in their fields, according to a monthly summary from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Farmers in Khammouan, Savannkhet, Vientiane and Bolikhamxai provinces and in th capital have now harvested all their rice. In addition, sweetcorn, cassava, beans, yam and taro have been grown on 100,530 hectares. Gardeners are also planting lettuce, chervil, onions, garlic, chines cabbage, mint and morning glory. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry are carrying out inspections of meat and seafood imported from neighbouring countries, hoping to identify any items that contain formalin and prevent their sale.
