Celebrate World Wildlife Day (WWD) 2024 with the theme “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation” to utilize digital advancements in spreading awareness about wildlife conservation, promoting sustainability, and enforcing laws to safeguard wild animals for future generations.
Recognizing the profound reliance of the Lao people on natural resources and biodiversity for their livelihoods, such as food, medicine, and clothing, the Pha Khao Lao digital platform aims to share knowledge about biodiversity and wildlife to the Lao society to foster a better understanding of its importance.
Pha Khao Lao will soon take advantage of the power of crowdsourcing and citizen science by integrating over 14,000 observation data from the iNaturalist platform into its database (www.inaturalist.org). Further, Pha Khao Lao is entering a partnership with WorldFish (www.worldfishcenter.org) to link their data for Laos using an application programming interface (API).
By leveraging the potential of digital platforms, Pha Khao Lao aims to engage more people, including local communities, in sustainable conservation practices. This digital approach not only facilitates the dissemination of knowledge but also encourages active participation in the preservation of biodiversity and the protection of wildlife.
