Mr. Saengkham Inthiratvongsy worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry of the National University of Laos (NUoL) from 1991 to 2010. After that, he worked as a freelancer in natural resource management and became interested in coffee.
Thanks to a UN scholarship, he studied coffee farming in Thailand. In 2015, he and his colleagues co-founded Lao Coffee Lovers to help farmers improve their skills and connect with others in the coffee industry.
In 2019, Mr. Saengkham founded Green Mountain Coffee to support coffee production in Dakcheung District, Sekong Province. He provides training, helps farmers to overcome the challenge of limited access to markets, and works to improve coffee quality. Ethnic women play an important role in coffee farming in Dakcheung. They formed producer groups, learned new skills, and produce high-quality coffee.
Today, Dakcheung coffee is gaining recognition and helps local communities to improve their income. In 2022, Green Mountain Coffee won the first place in a national coffee competition organized with the Lao Coffee Association. These competitions are held every year to promote Lao coffee.
