Sahai Lao Coffee Roastery is a community driven initiative that empowers local farmers across Northern Laos. Sahai promotes sustainable practices by training growers in selective hand-picking and responsible processing methods. They help partner communities to master each production step while protecting their ancestral lands.

In 2012, Alex Chitdara, one of the two co-founders of Sahai coffee roastery, expanded his vision into the tourism sector by offering responsible guided travel tours into the coffee growing areas around Luang Prabang, allowing tourists to discover the producer’s side of the coffee value-chain. Rooted in the principle of “consumer responsibility,” his tours focus on authentic cultural exchange and meaningful interaction with local communities. Through these experiences, visitors learn how coffee is cultivated, harvested, and processed, while local families gain additional income and recognition for their traditional knowledge.

SAHAI’s philosophy embraces the art of creating original refreshments rooted in local cuisine, crafting flavors that are both authentic and sustainable. Every drink is made with ingredients sourced directly from partner farmers, ensuring they earn stability.
