In this regard, a resident of Thapangthong district of Savannakhet provine, Mr Leu Inthilath, 50, is among the outstanding farmers who have been able to earn a better income by raising livestock and growing rice. He said that he has 10 members in his family, and most of them are mainly engaged in raising livestock and growing rice to earn money to take care of the family’s needs.
In 2017, he had 40 cows, five goats and 2.5 hectares of rice fields. In order to produce more to meet the market demands, he currently has 75 cows and has been sell 10 to 12 cows every year, from which he earn 28 million to 32 million kip.He also has 25 goats and he has been able to sell six to eight goats per year, from which he earns 3 million to 5 million kip.
He currently has four hectares of rice field and produces 12 tonnes of rice during each wet season and earn more than 5 million kip by selling rice. To develop his farm, he has also set up two fish ponds to sell fish, and all of the income he earns from these activities can take care of his family’s needs. He has also been able to send his grandchildren to school.
