This photo book features 564 fish species consisting of 20 exotic species, recorded by fishermen using various types of fishing gear across multiple locations. To enhance identification accuracy, the book also compares species with similar characteristics found in the Lower Mekong Basin. The primary aim of this photo book is to assist riparian fish researchers in addressing challenges related to the misidentification of fish species. It is particularly designed for national counterparts overseeing fisheries monitoring activities and for training fishers to accurately document fish catch compositions. This standardized approach ensures consistent, high-quality fish catch records across MRC Member Countries, contributing to harmonized national and regional datasets. This photo book is intended as a living document, subject to regular updates based on new data and user feedback. Fisheries researchers and fishers are encouraged to share observations from the field to correct or enhance the document. Photographing and sampling fish species during monitoring activities is strongly recommended. All feedback and contributions will be acknowledged. In future updates, a more compact version featuring only species codes and photographs will also be developed to facilitate ease of use in the field over the long term.
