ASDSP provide capacity building to small farmers

The Association to Support the Development of Peasant Societies (ASDSP) was founded in 1988 with the mission of promoting smart and sustainable agricultural practices among rural farmers. Its focus is on encouraging local innovation, improving productivity, and supporting bio-composting using locally available resources. After a period of suspension due to limited market access, ASDSP was successfully revitalized in 2012 under the leadership of Dr. Sisaliao Svengsuksa. The association’s office is located in the Association for the Promotion of Rural Social Development, Somsanga Village, Saysetthan District, Vientiane, and it currently has six staff members.

ASDSP has played a key role in advancing organic farming and sustainable rural development in Lao PDR, particularly in the production of organic agricultural products such as tea, rice, honey, and fruits. The organization also focuses on improving rural livelihoods by strengthening farmers’ capacities and resilience.

ASDSP vision centers on empowering young people and small-scale farmers by enhancing agricultural skills, promoting organic and nature-based farming practices, and linking producers to fair, reliable, and broader markets at national, regional, and international levels.

ASDSP supports farmers through the establishment of agricultural cooperatives, helping them improve collective. In addition, the organization has developed processing facilities to add value to local agricultural products. By 2018, ASDSP began processing fruits into export-ready products for European markets, and in 2019, its contributions were recognized with an Agricultural Honor Award from the French government.
