Bounpasakxay Khamphoumy is a Lao forestry researcher and silviculture specialist with more than 20 years of experience in sustainable forest management, reforestation, and biodiversity conservation. He previously worked at the Forestry Research Center of the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) and currently serves as a Technical Officer in the Protected Area Management Division of the Department of Forestry, Lao PDR. Throughout his career, he has contributed to forestry research, policy development, and practical approaches to conserving the country’s forest resources.
A major focus of his work has been improving the availability of quality seeds for forest restoration. He helped identify and establish 76 seed source sites for 29 native tree species across all 18 provinces of Lao PDR, strengthening the supply of planting materials for forest nurseries and supporting national reforestation efforts. He holds a master’s degree in Silviculture (Tropical Forest Management) from Nanjing Forestry University, where his research contributed to improving knowledge of native tree plantations, forest restoration, and biodiversity conservation.
Bounpasakxay has published scientific research on forest ecology, native tree species, agroforestry, and sustainable land management. He has represented Lao PDR in regional forestry initiatives, including the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) and the Sino-ASEAN Network of Forestry Research Institutes (SANFRI). He also contributes to the Phakhaolao Species Database and is a member of the ASEAN Working Group on Nature Conservation and Biodiversity (AWGNCB). Through his research, collaboration, and regional engagement, he continues to support the sustainable management of Laos’ forests and natural resources for the benefit of future generations.
