Associate Professor Soulivanh Lanorsavanh

Advancing Plant Morphology and Vascular Plant Research in Laos

Associate Professor Soulivanh Lanorsavanh is a lecturer and the Deputy Head of the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, National University of Laos (NUoL). He has dedicated his academic career to the study of plant morphology and the vascular flora of Lao PDR. His work is driven by a deep passion for plant diversity and a strong interest in traditional plant use by ethnic communities, medicinal applications, and the conservation and sustainable use of rare and socio-economically important species.

After completing his bachelor’s degree, he began his academic journey as a lecturer at the Department of Biology, where he gained valuable hands-on research experience. A turning point in his career came with his involvement in the UK-funded Darwin Project, implemented in collaboration with the Institute of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development and the Faculty of Natural Sciences. This partnership significantly deepened his commitment to botanical research.

His scientific contributions are documented in national and international journals, as well as in educational materials, including textbooks on Plant Morphology and A Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Lao PDR. Through his research and teaching, he actively promotes the sustainable management and conservation of natural resources for the well-being of current and future generations.
