Somvang Khounsomehuang

Owner of Kamsi Her Her Farm

Mr. Somvang Khounsomehuang began raising hornets after noticing that they were becoming increasingly difficult to find in the wild. He asked himself: What will happen to hornets in the future if people continue collecting them from the wild without conservation efforts?

This question inspired him to establish Kamsi Her Her Farm in 2017. Concerned about continued wild collection, he looked for a way to raise and breed hornets more systematically while responding to market demand.

To build his knowledge, Mr. Somvang studied hornet-raising techniques and, in 2020, took a training course with experts from China to learn about hornet farming. He then applied what he learned to develop his own breeding and farming practices.

Today, Kamsi Her Her Farm focuses on breeding and raising hornets, including producing breeding stock for people interested in starting their own farms. The farm has raised and sold up to 1,000 hornet nests per year.

Looking ahead, Mr. Somvang hopes to develop the farm into a learning centre where he can share his knowledge and practical experience with others. His journey demonstrates how concern about declining wild resources can inspire practical action to support resource conservation while creating livelihood opportunities.
