Leaving a full-time job to pursue agriculture was a major decision for Nuthikone Sipasert (Top), driven by his growing interest in farming and passion for working with plants.
Top started farming as a side business while working full-time, initially growing sunflower microgreens. As the business grew, he found it increasingly difficult to balance both jobs. In 2018, he left his employment to focus on agriculture full-time.
He continued learning online, experimenting with different vegetable-growing techniques and gaining practical experience through both successes and failures.
In 2019, Top established BanSuanAiOun in Luang Prabang, producing a wide variety of vegetables for local hotels. He focused on understanding market demand, seasonal crops, and the vegetables needed by hotels, allowing him to plan production according to customer needs. Today, Ai Oun Farm grows more than 100 vegetable varieties such as: Tomato, Carrot, Sponge gourd, Papaya, Cucumber while reducing the use of chemical inputs. Top also produces organic and fermented fertilizers for use on the farm.
For Top, successful farming is about producing safe, high-quality vegetables that consumers can trust while responding to market needs. His experience has also enabled him to share his knowledge with other farmers and communities. He currently works as an agricultural advisor for a Sustainable Rural Infrastructure and Watershed Management Sector Project (SRIWMSP) in Xayabouly Province, providing training and technical support to farmer groups and local households
